Artist Statement

Mel Zia is a German Photographer and Art Historian, currently living in the United States.

Mel’s photographic landscapes are a reflection of her personal relationship with nature.  Born in the sign of the leo, the sun is her element, which ignites her passion for capturing the light and vivid colors in her art.  To keep the motif as natural as possible, she works with existing light and favors the blue hour.  Natural light offers an array of ambience throughout the entire day and she seduces the mysterious colors of the night through her lens.  Her cinematic photography style is inspired by works of David Lynch and William Eggleston.

Like a scientist, she observes and analyzes her environment in forms of patterns and colors.  Her camera is a tool to make the unseen visible or to reinforce a scene by telling a story captured in one shot.  This kind of discovery is also evident in her Urban Photographs, where she catches moments and things that are unnoticed for many people in everyday life.

The way we perceive our environment is a very unique experience.  The artist shares her view of the world with you and invites you to see the world through her eyes to explore new realities for yourself.
